Carl Kleinknecht, Director of Operations
Carl graduated from The Citadel, the Military College of SC with a bachelor’s degree in English
and started his 31-year career in law enforcement. He lateral-transferred to the Bellevue (WA) police department after having served two years in the Charleston, SC police department.
At Bellevue PD he served in the Patrol Division as a Field Training Officer and later as a Patrol Lieutenant, Patrol Captain, and Patrol Division Commander. He has an extensive investigative background and served as a detective for over 13 years in the Gang Unit, the Property and Arson Unit, the Violent Crimes Unit, and an assignment to the FBI Seattle Field Office’s Violent Crimes Task Force. During this period he investigated homicides, officer-involved shootings, and unknown cause deaths. He also commanded the department’s full-time surveillance unit which safely apprehended dozens of felons in the act of committing additional crimes.
As a member of the command staff he was in charge of the Office of Accountability and also oversaw deployment of the SWAT unit to several high-risk arrests and search warrants. As an Assistant Chief, he commanded the Operations Division which included Patrol, Traffic, Criminal Investigations, and Special Operations.
Carl graduated from the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston University in 2017 and the 271st Session of the FBI National Academy at Quantico in 2018.
He retired from Bellevue PD in October 2020 and became certified in Executive Protection and as an armed private investigator in early 2021.
